Zev's Elephant Birthday Cake

I got an email about a month ago, from a friend of a friend requesting an elephant cake. Tara, the adorable birthday boy's sweet mom, wanted something elephant themed for her son's 1st birthday party that matched the cute invitations. I got so excited because I love elephants, and I have been hoping to do a sort of circus themed cake for awhile.
The best part of Tara's request is the little mini cake she wanted for Zev, so he could enjoy it all to himself =)

I was able to take the invitation she had sent me and run with it. This is now officially one of my favorite cakes to make. The party looked great, and Tara was so great to work with! Hope you enjoyed it sweet baby Zev!

An "Old Man" Cake: Glasses & Plaid

I recently received an order from a client requesting a cake for her husband. She was laughing as she said she wanted a cake for her husband's birthday with big goofy glasses on top. I made the cake, all the while wondering what the significance was behind the glasses. As I dropped off the cake, I told her I'd love to tell the story behind it on the blog...I loved the answer her daughter gave, the glasses are because well, "he's getting old!" I hope your "Distinguished" cake made you chuckle! Happy Birthday David!

A Pretty Peacock Cake for a Pretty Lady!

This cake I call the "Machelle Cake", named after my stepmom who I made if for. It was her birthday recently and as a supporter of my business, I wanted to honor her! She not only lent me her Kitchenaid for almost a year until I got my own, but has also been an encourager of starting my own business, having been through the same thing herself.

Over the course of several years, Machelle and my dad have dedicated their free time toward starting a non-profit organic pet-food business that will benefit avian rescues. So many people buy exotic birds, only to find out they were not prepared for the sometimes 20+ year commitment. Avian rescues provide a place for these feathered creatures when their owners have given up or are no longer able to care for them.  Even while on a break from the business after their move to Arizona, she has been dedicated to researching diets that will help benefit birds who pluck all of their feathers out and publishes her findings on her blog to the avian community. Her bird food diets have been known to have remarkable results on many "pluckers" and their beautiful feathers have started to grow back almost immediately after starting the diets. 

Because of their love for birds, I wanted to create an extra special cake for her...something including feathers! I ended up making a hand-painted, glittery cake using  using a Peacock feather theme to personify what I think are some of her greatest qualities. The many colors are for her creative and inventive qualities; she is strong as well as gentle, and beautiful- caring for the "least" the way Jesus does. From cake base to final touches!

My friend Nicole and I started chatting about a month in advance about her cake order for her boyfriend Doug. She knew well in advance she wanted to order him a guitar cake due to his love for the instrument, and I was excited to do an acoustic guitar cake! She saw my previous post about the Fender Stratocaster cake (a type of electric guitar) I made for my dad, which is where she got the idea. Some people have asked me if I use a guitar pan for my guitar cakes, and I personally do not, as I know I will have requests for varying types and for varying sizes, so my cake are all sculpted by hand. I look forward to more custom guitar cakes in the future! Can someone consider ordering a key-tar cake? I kind of want to make one of these as well =)

A Golden Birthday / Firefighter Cake!

My friend Kendra was SO excited to order a cake for her brother Chris, who had his golden birthday coming up. He is a local fire fighter and his 27th bday was coming up on the 27th of December, did I mention he works at station 27 as well? So of coarse Kendra wanted a golden cake that incorporated all these elements. I was very excited to hear, Chris was very happy with his surprise chocolate cake! What a great sis!
